Howard Thompson finished
his studies at Northwest College in 1969. During his years at
Northwest, Howard was very active on the Karisma staff, first as a
photographer, then as Assistant Editor, and then as Editor in 1967-68.
After completing his studies, he went home to Oregon where he married Carolyn Arnett,
right out of High School. Carolyn was the daughter of Rev. J.C. Arnett,
who, at that time, was Pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Bandon,
OR. Howard and Carolyn were married 34 years, and had 6 children. Last
March, Carolyn was diagnosed with brain cancer. After brain surgery and
a long recovery, she was doing some better last fall. On December 1,
2005, while they were visiting Howard's Sister, Kristina Thompson (NC
'72) in Arizona, who was, herself, battling breast cancer, Carolyn suffered a very severe headache which was the harbinger of things to come. She rapidly deteriated, and passed away on January 18, 2006. Carolyn would have been 53 on Valentines Day. Meanwhile, three weeks earlier, in Arizona, Howard's sister, Kristina Thompson lost her battle with cancer and died on December 28, 2005.
Howard and his family are going through a very trying season. Howard
continues on as Pastor of Bunker Hill Assembly in Coos Bay, OR., where
he and Carolyn have served for the past 23 years. I know that he will
appreciate your prayers. If you wish to encourage Howard with an
