Good morning, Valentines.
Traditions are amusing. Valentine’s Day is one of them. I wonder if the tradition is more a result of our conscientious lack of love and thoughtfulness than an expression of it. But we conformed this morning. I had Kaden deliver the flowers to Becki in bed, while I delivered the tea. Besides being my lover, she is a super gramma.

I run the risk of being regarded as somewhat heretical, but to be very honest, I’m not so sure about this deal Peter cooks up to have another man voted into the apostolic position vacated by Judas Iscariot. And I don’t fully trust as being infallible the prayer Peter and the other disciples prayed before they voted. “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs” (Acts 1:24-25.
“To go where he belongs?” Just a minute here! Just because these guys are appearing so holy and prayerful doesn’t necessarily guarantee that everything they do and say is truly and perfectly inspired of God. I’ve been around the block enough times to have that confirmed to me many times over. Sounds to me like someone has a personal burr under their personal blanket. Sounds to me like someone isn’t taking time to look in the mirror. Hello, Peter! Think about it. No one likes a traitor or betrayer. But the core of the Gospel is that NONE OF US NEED TO GO WHERE WE BELONG! The world, who doesn’t understand, may use the name of that place as a kind of curse—like, “Ah, go to hell!” But not the true believer who understands the love and grace of God—and what hell is all about. I think the disciples still have some major “growing up” to do. They still need some more personal revelation. They still need a special infusion of the Holy Spirit and the love of God. Now there’s an idea!
