Passage: Matthew 19:1-15
Focus: “…at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female…” Matthew 19:4.
Without becoming caught up in the difficult debate over divorce and
remarriage and questions over details such as licenses, ceremonies, and
the superiority of a church wedding over a civil wedding, let’s take
time to focus here on a fundamental FACT and IDEAL: GOD MADE PEOPLE
EITHER MALE OR FEMALE WITH BINDING RESPONSIBILITES ATTACHED.
First,
consider the MADE part of this thesis. It is more than difficult
for me to comprehend the gross absurdity of the evolutionary notion
that embraces the idea that all life is a total accident. It’s
just a lot of B.S.—bad science. Even if I were to concede enough
to allow that just maybe some proteins and amino acids coupled with an
electrical shock could have caused a “spark” of life at some point, how
could we account for the development of gender and all the minute
distinctions and details. It is just infinitely impossible!
GOD MADE GENDER (sexuality). In my judgment, there is simply no
better scientific explanation.
This “FACT and IDEAL” thesis above
may not appear very profound at first. But it only makes sense to
me that if we, as a body of Bible believers called the CHURCH, could
allow that simple principle to be fully absorbed by our persistently
dirty little hearts, it would go a long way toward dealing effectively
with the prominence of sexual permissiveness and marital infidelity
that so plagues the church in particular and our society in
general. Please, please, please understand that your maleness or
femaleness, with its accompanying sexual apparatus is not of your own
making or design nor the invention of modern man. Sexuality is
the creation and gift of God to humans and He has every right to
prescribe high responsibilities for its use.
Try focusing again on these key words in this passage: “…male and
female…one flesh…God has joined together (by the means of
specially-designed sexual parts and psychological attractions)…let not
man (or man-made ideas) separate.” Men will always come up with
all manner of exceptions and excuses for violating God’s rule.
But let’s be reminded of the basic rule nonetheless: THOU SHALT NOT
EXERCISE THY SEXUAL GIFTING OUTSIDE THE CONFIRNES OF MARRIAGE AND
COMMITMENT TO PERMANENCE. Indeed sexual involvement between male
and female IS a form of marriage from God’s perspective (1 Cor.
6:9-20), confirming the tremendous seriousness of fornication and
adultery.
That’s a truth worth establishing in our own hearts. That’s a
truth worth communicating to our children.
