2009 Alumni of the 60s
Reunion Report
July 24 - 26, 2009
The 2009
alumni of the 60s reunion in Sedro-Woolley ran from Friday evening
through Sunday morning. The photo above was taken after our
final
session on Sunday Morning, and only pictures a little over one third of
those who participated throughout the weekend.
This
year marked the 7th consecutive year that the Alumni of the 60s have
met for a weekend of fellowship, food, and fun at Vandenburg Park in
Sedro-Woolley. A few years ago someone suggested that we
should
call these events a retreat because they are much more than a typical
"reunion". Our Host, Danny Vandenburg says, "It's like havin' camp meetin'
in our back yard when your group comes."
Campers
trickled in on Friday evening. Traffic on the freeway
resulted in
a much longer road trip than some had anticipated, bringing them into
the campground later than usual. Major road construction on
Fruitdale road also added some confusion for some who had to find an
alternate route to the campground. However, Eunice went to
work
preparing dinner over the fire, and folks just kept coming.
We
were surprised by the arrival of Ken and Joan (Warden) Litzenberger
from Houston, TX. This was the first time they had been able
to
get here. After supper we put Ken on the cable chair for his
initiation. It's
always
great fun to watch as Danny Vandenburg gives folks their first ride on
the cable chair. We'll let the pictures speak for themselves
here.
By
the time we began the singing, around 8:00 PM, there was a good crowd
of about 40 people. The musical flavor of the night was "gospel
bluegrass". Arlene accompanied on the keyboard, our
host,
Danny Vandenburg played the banjolin, I played the guitar, and our
guests, Eric & Barbara West played the 5 string banjo, and
upright
bass.
SATURDAY
Saturday
morning, Danny Vandenburg was at the campsite early to get the fire
ready for breakfast. John Wilkie teamed up with Danny in
cooking
up a great breakfast with pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage.
The
campers spent the morning visiting, and making preparations for the
potluck picnic at noon. Below are a series of pictures taken
on
Saturday.
