Hi everyone,
Well, it is hard to know when to write, as things change by the day or less. We are very fortunate to have so many friends and family members who care about us, especially Ardyth during this time.
We met with the Dr. this afternoon following another x-ray to confirm what they thought was happening on Saturday. When he read the x-ray, he confirmed that her stomach was empty of any substance, and that fluids were now flowing through her stomach and into her bowel to exit her body. He said the places that were part of the surgery, which is several places, would have some inflamation for a period of time. What he thought happened here is a double reaction. The repair where the stomach and bowel connected was still inflamed and very small opening allowed fluids to get through the opening but not any solid foods. She ate small amounts of solids during the week, and some got through, but as she ate more, it blocked the opening and her food built up in the stomach until it came up Friday afternoon. Because of the pressure, the second reaction was pressure on part of the repairs at the same place, causing some bleeding at the point of the repair. They gave her some medication to relax her stomach muscles, which then caused the inflamation to subside, and allowed her stomach to empty and flush out of her system. This also took the pressure off the bleeding area, and allowed it to clot and repair itself.
This afternoon, the Dr. ordered a liquid diet for her, and if she does well overnight, she will come home sometime on Monday. Sorry about the detailed note, but sometimes it helps to understand something that you are concerned about or are praying about. Again, thanks for your concerns, and hopefully this will be the last of the problems coming out of this surgery.
Jack and Ardyth.
