Lucy Hafelfinger arrived at Northwest College as a freshman in the fall of
1963 from Emmett, Idaho. She graduated in the spring of 1967 with
a degree in Christian Education. During her four years at NU, she
was very active in the Music Department. She sang and ministered every
year with the Concert
Choir, as well as participating in musical
ministry and outreach
groups on the weekends. Through the years
since college, Lucy has been involved in music ministry in churches.
For many years, she was the Director of Music for a large
southern California church.
Lucy writes:
"Gary
& I were married in 1980 in Riverside, CA at the Mission Inn.
He came with two children, Shelly, then 16, and Andrew, 11. Gary
was transferred to Washington in 1987 by American Baptist Homes of the
West. He retired from hospital administration in 1998. We
owned an Antique and Gift store in Gig Harbor called "The Treasure
Shoppe," which we sold in December 2004. We lived in Gig Harbor
for 10 years, where we served on the Board and in the choir at Chapel
Hill Presbyterian. I retired from the Sheriff's Department
in May, 2005. Shortly thereafter, we moved to Wenatchee.
Andrew keeps himself very busy with three small businesses in the
San
Diego area. Shelly is still in Insurance, working in Walnut
Creek, CA
now."
Lucy has been an active part or our 60's
Alumni reunions, since attending the 2002 gathering in Molalla, Oregon.
At the Molalla reunion, after pressure from her peers, she
reluctantly came to the keyboard to sing and play an off-the-cuff
rendition of the Andrae Crouch song "My
Tribute". Click the song title to hear that recording
from September 7, 2002.
Lucy's husband, Gary, passed away in Wenatchee, WA on August 7, 2013
