Hi, Samara.

Oh so late already! But I still intend to get out there before any breakfast to do my old man jog.

I don’t know if you saw any of the inauguration yesterday—of even if you have any interest. I’m really not a news and politics buff, but I did see most of the inauguration. I’m making reference to it in my spin below.

I guess I now have some reason to squirm with the fact that I offer some criticisms of President Trump’s speech. Does this mean I am hypocritical with what I’m presenting below?—seeking to build myself up by tearing someone else down? Somewhere in this delicate mix is balance. I certainly desire to be that, but if I really believe some things, I guess it’s not possible to be viewed as balanced by those who don’t believe those same things. Oh my!!! Who said life was easy?!?!

May the Lord bless you and guide you in navigating your own course.

Love, Tua.

Proverbs 21
Focus: “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.” Proverbs 21:1.

Hmmm. Does this mean that President Trump’s inaugural speech yesterday was directed by the LORD? After all, if the LORD is tweaking Donald Trump’s heart, and it is out of that heart condition that the mouth speaks, then I guess the main message could be directed and influenced by the LORD. But if that is so, it does not lead me to believe that the LORD has wonderful peace and unity in His master plan for America. I’m thinking that we need to keep our Biblical faith and trust seatbelts fastened! Why? Because I heard almost nothing in that speech that I could calculate to calm the opposition—only what insulted, demeaned, and inflamed the opposition. To be sure, the opposition is not going away. Insofar as diplomacy is concerned, I judged his words on a natural cause-and-effect level to be of poor timing, even though I basically agree with the truth of his words.

Here’s the lesson as it relates to you, Samara—a principle of wisdom that I think was violated in that speech yesterday: YOU NEVER SUCCESSFULLY BUILD YOURSELF UP BY MEANS OF TEARING SOMEONE ELSE DOWN. If we took time to think and search the Scriptures, I know we could stack up some sound Biblical support for this principle.

Rather than bashing, trashing, and campaigning, all President Trump needed to do in that setting was reiterate the seriousness of the oath he had just taken—and promise something like, “I am humbled by your support that has elected me to this high office and solemnly swear to do my absolute best to fulfill my oath and serve this great nation, so help me God!”

In the courses of our lives, I guess that’s about all you and I need to do too. It seems out of order to try to convince others of how wonderful we are, or to make a lot of absolute promises concerning all the wonderful stuff we intend to acquire or achieve. All we really need to do is our best before God with what we have to work with. And since we, as servants of the Most High, are doing life in partnership with Him (1 Corinthians 3:9), we really do have a LOT to work with.

“Arrogance and pride — distinguishing marks in the wicked — are just plain sin.”
~ Proverbs 21:4 ~
