20 December 2016

Good morning, Samara.

Well—the fact is that when I wrote that little greeting, it was morning, but it’s not morning any more. It’s actually closer to my need to drop into bed than my need to rise. It’s nearly 8pm. It’s been a crazy day.

Yup! My eyes are starting to cross. I better quit here.

Good night. Love, Tua.

Proverbs 20
Focus: "The purposes of a man’s heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out.” Proverbs 20:5.

Here’s a translation of that verse from THE MESSAGE Bible: “Knowing what is right is like deep water in the heart; a wise person draws from the well within.”

If we understand that conducting our lives according to what we KNOW is superior to managing it according to what we FEEL, we are now much better prepared to live our lives properly, safely, with far fewer stupid mistakes that we would later regret.

Now, consider these words of Jesus from John 7:37-38: “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."”

What we have here is another metaphor that helps to describe something hard to describe—the wonderful mystical relationship of a BORN AGAIN child of God with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. If Jesus is the source of these “streams of living water,” and Jesus is within (“Christ in you, the hope of glory”—Col. 1:27), then the believer is blessed by an ongoing resource of life-giving inspiration, empowerment, and guidance that flows from that relationship. If this is the key to living to please God, can there be anything more important? Let’s repeat what we read above: “A wise person draws from the well within.”
