Passage: Matthew 14:13-36
Focus: Take courage!  It is I.  Don’t be afraid.”  Matthew 13:27.

You can rest assured that this situation was no circumstantial accident.  Jesus was the one who sent the disciples off in the boat.  He had to know what was about to transpire.  He knew the disciples were entering a tense and difficult situation in the sea.  And He knew He would interrupt that situation with His supernatural appearance and deliverance.  Though not known to them at the time, it was all part of the Divine curriculum aimed at their learning and development.

I’m feeling a bit of poetic urge:
Before I embrace the line
Smooth sailing all the time
First ponder and examine
This may be by design.

It’s interesting to consider the wording of the KJV.  Jesus says, “Be of good cheer!”  We are wise to remember that, “A cheerful heart is good medicine” (Prov. 17:22).
